“Snow is Good”

Last night 2 dozen or so brave souls ventured into a snowstorm to view “The Economics of Happiness” presented by the Garrison Institute. See yesterday’s post for more information and a film clip. We’ll have a review later today. THVG has a copy of the film, and is planning several showings in the Hudson Valley. Please stay tuned.

Other events of note this weekend are the screening and discussion in New Paltz of “The World According to Monsanto,” a film on how one world dominating corporation holds the keys and patents to much of the world’s food supply, and a lecture in Millbrook, “Snow is Good”. In the northeast, climate warming is actually more marked in the winter, and the loss of snow cover can have a ripple effect on tree growth and groundwater recharge.

For those of you who prefer your winter weekend activities en plein air, events this weekend include Wilderness Survival with Mountain Scout Survival School in Esopus, winter wildlife tracking for families at Minnewaska State Park Preserve, and a strenuous eight-mile snowshoe hike at Black Rock Forest.
