Today is Car-Free day around the world

Today is Worldwide Car-Free Day. There are no planned activities in the Hudson Valley, but perhaps you could forgo one car trip today, or this weekend, in solidarity. Maybe next year there will be something for Hudson Valley towns. Meanwhile, here are a few reports and events from other parts.

Washington, DC. and its environs is observing Carfree Day. On a recent trip to Washington, DC, I got to use its wonderful Bikeshare program, which is now coming to NYC, big time. More on this soon.

Montreal is closing some streets to auto traffic, and so is Ottowa.

Mumbai is promoting Car-Free day, asking residents to leave the car in the garage.

In Chicagoland, the Transit Authority is on board, too.

In China, unfortunately, the love affair with the automobile is just heating up, and Car-Free Day did nothing to lessen the massive traffic jams there.

Driving less can save you money, including on your insurance bill.
